Home(Soooo)Goods

I have yet to meet a home decor/designer/shopper who doesn't love a trip to HomeGoods.  I will admit... I visit my local stores weekly and sometimes even twice weekly.  I am almost never in search of something specific yet I have snagged the most amazing deals in this home decor haven.  As I visited one of my local stores recently a thought crossed my mind.  Do people know the correct way to shop here?
It took me years to figure it out and I think that a helpful guide would have been appreciated.  So, here I go!  I wanted to share some hints and tips on how to snag the best, most quality deals on your next trip to HomeGoods!

First things first, don't plan anything.

I have to say this place is the one place where a game plan is not useful and in fact can hinder your potential for finding a true gem.  HomeGoods is the type of place where being open minded is best.  If you focus too much on what you want, you may never find something you truly need.
Remember, shop the whole store.  Put things you are attracted to in your cart and then comb through the cart before checkout.  The second thing to remember about HG is buy now think later.  HG is not the type of place you go to "think about it."  If you don't grab the piece that moment it may not be there the next time you come back.  Chances are that it may not be there a few minutes later.  My sister in law and I discovered that you cannot get too excited about anything "out loud" at HG.  People will literally scoops things up from right under your nose if you wait to long to pull the trigger.  HG has a great return policy so go ahead buy it and return it if it doesn't work for you.

Shop the best days.

Do not go to HG during the weekend.  The best selection and least amount of shopping competitors are Tuesday through Fridays.  Also, find out when is the delivery date for your local store.  I know that my store gets new shipments every Wednesday.  I always try to stop in the very next day or even Wednesday evening if I can manage it.  The quietest times in the store are weekday evenings and that is when most of the fresh restocking takes place.  This is a great time to go.  Another, crucial and super helpful hint is to make friends.  Make friends with the store employees and even the back stockroom employees.  Once you do, they will always know what you are looking for and even hold on to things specifically for you.  I personally have a great young man who knows I love decorative pillows in blush and cream tones, blankets, and mercury glass.  He sets them aside for me and when I am at the store he shows them to me first before putting them out.  Also, whenever possible you should shop the "good" stores.  I find that stores close to or in large cities have less quality selection.   So go to the suburbs and explore.  Plan a day and hit up a few stores in a row.  You may find 3 amazing wine glasses at one location and another 3 at the next store.

Another super tip is to be creative with your finds.  For example, you love a faux floral arrangement but hate the vase it comes in.  Spray paint it! I sprayed a white ceramic pot mirrored silver because it went better with my decor.
I also sprayed a gold side  table copper to fit into a room of copper accents.  I can't find the right pillows to accentuate a specific room.  Did you try the linen section or table ware section of the store?  You can make pillow covers with large table runners or some flat sheets for the bedding section.  You are on a search for a thick, jacquard table cloth for your holiday tablescape, but you just can't seem to find the perfect one.  How about scoping out the drapery section.  You may be able to grab a large curtain panel, trim off the rod pocket and there you have the perfect table cloth.

Lastly, snag the designer and name brand stuff!!

HG carries brands like Kate Spade Home Collection, Hooker Furniture, Lenox, Mikasa, Calvin Klein Home, and more.  I have even found Jonathon Adler pieces and expensive electrics by Breville and Cuisinart. I picked up this awesome electric kettle which retails currently at Williams Sonoma for $149.95.  My price for the same exact item was $49.99!
Last but not least, download the HG app on your phone.
They will send you sneak peak updates on upcoming shipments as well as direct post pics of things that are available that day at your local store.  They also have a wonderful inspo blog and lots of handy information.

I hope I have inspired you and gave you some hints to hold onto on your next shopping trip. Get creative and adventurous with your trips to HG and share all your finds with friends and decor lovers everywhere.  Till next post!
