High Flash Low Cash

I am always looking for pro decor tips.  This is why I spend most of my free time engulfed in decor blogs, design magazines, home decor stores, design shows, and art books.  There are some wonderful tips that I have picked up over the years.   These tips are simple, economical, but will give you tons of home decor flash for very little cash!

One great way to add super style to your home is to add crown molding.  This will give depth and character to otherwise boring walls.  It will also make your ceilings appears taller.  There are tons of molding styles to choose from. From modern, to art deco, to classic there are styles for every decor and every design style. A pro tip to remember is the thicker the molding the more pizzazz!

You can make your home feel really luxurious with simple additions such as throw pillows.  The amount of pillows and styling of them depends on your own style, but adding multiple sizes in different textures, colors, and prints can really prove to be a lux and jaw dropping change.
Another way to add high style and comfort is by adding and layer different sized pillows instead of your sofa's existing back cushions.  This creates a rich and luxurious seating arrangement which will wow guests and bring tons of comfort to your sofa. 

Speaking of a verity of colors and textures, TEXTURE is everything.  Nothing looks more drab and style-less than monotone texture.  When everything is all shiny and smooth, a room can feel sterile and just plain blah.  Try to add a mix of fabrics from velvet to jute to faux Mongolian fur to any room to give it a pure WOW factor.  Sprinkle in metals and woods for an even more lux feeling.  Just remember such as in fashion, there can be too much lux as well.  That being said, edit carefully.  Don't neglect your dinning area.  You can add unique table runners, soft lumbar pillows on your dinning chairs, or a sexy stylish faux cow hide under your table. 

A superb secret to creating a sexy and stunning bedroom is to add a calming wall color, some sparkle in terms of lighting, and soft textures in things like pillows and faux fur throws.  Try keeping bedding neutral and preferably white.  It looks clean and is a great basis for decor additions in bold patters, colors, or textures. 

Lets talk flowers!  Nothing brings more life and freshness to a space like beautiful fresh flowers.  Now you are thinking, who can afford fresh arrangements all the time.  The reality is that if you take care of your flowers, they can last quite a while. Furthermore, places like Trader Joe's and Costco sell fresh amazing flowers for a very reasonable cost.  If you must go the route of faux flowers or plants please be mindful to use quality arrangements. Also, keep them fresh.  If your faux flowers are older than five years... it is time to invest in new ones.  Trust me, they are dingy, dusty and out of style. 

 Lighting design is an all too often forgotten detail.  The perfect room lighting should include a combination of  recessed, sconces, and table/floor lamps.  Lighting can alter the mood and sometimes completely change the feel and look of a room.  A fantastic article on this topic is available on the Ballard Designs website by clicking on this link.
